Exposed concrete is an environmentally friendly floor finish: It eliminates the resource-consumption required to make (and periodically replace) applied floor coverings. In most cases, the concrete is already present, or a given part of basic construction. Polished concrete can provide a visual effect similar to expensive natural stone flooring without the environmental impact of quarrying stone. Concrete also outlasts most floor coverings.

Concrete emits no volatile organic compounds (VOCs): Many floor coverings or the adhesives used to apply them contain VOCs, a hazard to indoor air quality. Densified concrete floors typically require no waxing or sealing, and can be cleaned with simple detergents. This eliminates the indoor air quality problems due to chemical strippers, waxes, sealers, and polishes needed to maintain other types of floor finishes.

Lythic™ Solutions increases these sustainable benefits with our eco-friendly Lythic™ Densifier. Conventional densifiers based on silicates and siliconates are highly caustic, making them dangerous to handle, and they form a chemical slurry byproduct that requires disposal as a hazardous material. Lythic, based on Colloidal Silica, has a lower pH, so it is safer to handle, penetrates concrete quickly, and does not leave a dangerous residue. Lythic Densifier has zero VOCs and contains no harsh chemical solvents.

The Colloidal Silica in Lythic™ Densifier is produced from abundant raw materials and utilizes a clean manufacturing process that does not release pollutants into the environment. It is shipped in concentrated form to reduce packaging and transportation impacts on the environment. It is an inert substance and does not pose a high risk to health when exposure occurs at low levels.

Lythic Densifier is spray-applied, reacts quickly, and makes the concrete ready for polishing the same day. Elimination of the overnight wait required by conventional densifiers also reduces transportation-related energy consumption.

Lythic Densifier makes a concrete floor as green as it can be.
